Our Work

Our work takes us to the highest rates of malnutrition in children ages 0-5 in Central, South, & North America. Many indigenous Mayans living in rural areas are marginalized, and receive little or no help from their government. Few speak Spanish and they have extremely limited access to justice and health services.

Our Village Healthcare Outreach workers travel to remote areas with difficult-to-access communities with high rates of acute and fatal malnutrition. They work with families and teach them the skill sets they need to improve their family’s nutrition and health, provide small business development trainings, and teach other vital lessons using methods that have been developed specifically for the indigenous Q’eqchi’ people.

Our Team

  • Lauren Foulger

    FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

Lauren holds a Master’s in Public Health and a Bachelor’s in Sociology and International Development from Brigham Young University. With over 18 years of experience, she has worked on both domestic and international projects focused on supporting underserved communities. During her time in the Alta Verapaz region of Guatemala, Lauren spent several months living and conducting research on maternal and child health for the World Health Organization. The profound poverty and urgent needs she witnessed there inspired her deep commitment, and she has since dedicated her efforts to improving the lives of the people in the region.

  • Yvonne Sinclair

    IN-COUNTRY DIRECTOR

Yvonne left a successful career in publishing and writing in the U.K. to visit Guatemala for what was meant to be a three-week vacation—but she never left. After witnessing the critical need for nutrition and health education in the remote areas of Senahu in Alta Verapaz, she dedicated her life and resources to supporting the Mayan villagers. Yvonne now oversees daily operations of the projects in Guatemala, which include providing nutritional supplements for children at various stages of malnutrition, health education, family planning, sustainable initiatives to combat malnutrition, and a variety of other health-enhancing programs.

Our Guatemalan Staff

We currently employ ten dedicated local staff members who manage the projects on a daily basis, year round. Hailing from the local community, our team is well-trusted and respected by the villagers, with a deep understanding of the area's needs. Our skilled and intrepid health workers are bilingual in Spanish and Q’eqchi’, and they have a profound knowledge of traditional Mayan practices. Their professional health backgrounds allow them to collaborate effectively with other health service providers. In addition, our food production workers are experts in local cultivation and its cultural significance. They are dedicated to training families in horticulture, agriculture, and poultry raising. Most of our local staff members stay on remote sites, often without phone signal, showing immense dedication to their roles. It is thanks to their commitment that we continue to see significant improvements in the health and nutritional status of the families we serve.

Our Board of Volunteers

Our dedicated Board of Volunteers in the United States plays a vital role in supporting the mission of Humble Village. Meeting monthly, they collaborate to coordinate initiatives, secure funding, and oversee key aspects of our programs in Guatemala. Their commitment and leadership are instrumental in the success of our projects, ensuring that each effort aligns with our values and drives meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
